Social Media

 1. Is there an ideal number of "friends" or connections individuals have on Facebook that cab improve their mental health?

Social media has engraved this image on younger generations that happiness is based upon how many followers or friends you have. Most people that you have added on social media aren't even your friends that you see on a daily or even weekly basis. It affects many people's mental health negatively when they compare themselves to others who have more followers than they do on social media. Putting an ideal number on how many friends you should have added to measure happiness is unrealistic.

2. Do social networking sites have any responsibility in promoting mental health in their users? If so, how might they go about doing so?

Social networking sites definitely have a big responsibility in promoting mental health to their users. They can control all of the ads that are being promoted on their app or website. The network sites can use this as an opportunity to share mental health resources or even just spread awareness. Negative ads can pop up many times promoting things that should not even be praised which outs a negative image into people's minds. Sites can also control what kind of content is allowed to be posted, certain words or phrases can be blocked to post in order to protect from negativity. This is important to protect mental health because one bad comment sometimes can push someone to their limit.
